COURSE AIM
The aims of the course are that the students
- acquire knowledge of how to create a learning environment for all pupils at school on basis of the policy and procedure guidelines/requirements for compulsory school
- develop a comprehensive view of school problems where causes and measures are viewed from different perspectives
- work on their own attitudes and values concerning pupils in need of remedial teaching

CONTENTS
Remedial teaching.
Pupils in need of remedial teaching.
International agreements and national legislation (The Social Welfare Act for the Mentally Retarded, The Remedial Teaching Act, The School Act, The Occupational Safety and Health Act) applying to pupils in need of remedial teaching.
Ethical issues concerning the pupils and their families.
Secrecy and liability.
Integration/attitudes/action programmes/the computer as aid.
Bullying.
Pupils in need of remedial teaching from an international perspective.
Memo, final degree project.

TEACHING
Investigative work procedures will be applied throughout the course. All aspects of the course will be integrated. Expert participation and field studies/study visits will be included in the course. Students will be required to write a memo for the final degree project.

EXAMINATION
Evaluation of presentation of individual and group assignments and of a project with an interdisciplinary theme.
COURSE GRADE SCALE: Fail, Pass.
