Applicants must have completed the course PÄP037.

COURSE AIM
The overall aims of the course are that the students acquire knowledge that enable them to guide, support and help young people in their personal and social development.

The students are to acquire
- an orientation in social education as education, subject and field of application
- theoretical knowledge of psychological, socio-psychological, sociological and educational perspectives on psychosocial development
- knowledge of socialization and identity problems
- knowledge of current legislation, socio-political goals and means
- insights into the psychosocial problems that an insufficient leisure occupation can bring about
- preparedness for implementing knowledge of preventive psychosocial work and treatment
- knowledge of gender related aspects of psychosocial handicaps
- knowledge of international agreements on and perspectives of psychosocial work among young people
- an orientation in current research on the social conditions of young people.

The students are also to
- work on their own attitudes and values concerning deviating behaviour
- work on issues in current public discussions on psychosocial problems

Social education, psychosocial views and work
Different perspectives of and models of explanation to negative psychosocial development
International perspectives of psychosocial work
Traumatic crises, reactions and adaptations
Crime and addiction
Attitudes and values concerning psychosocial handicaps
Social legislation and support from society
Psychosocial work
Current research and public discussions

TEACHING
Lectures, seminars and group work. The group work will be focused on psychosocial development and social education.

EXAMINATION
Written examination and evaluation of course assignments and literature seminars, individually and in groups.
COURSE GRADE SCALE: Fail, Pass.
