PREREQUISITES
Mandatory: A basic course in mathematics, including linear algebra.
Recommended: A basic course in numerical analysis or scientific computing.

COURSE AIM
The aim of the course is to
- give theoretical and practical knowledge about algorithms and methods used in large scale matrix computations.
- give insight into the behaviour of different methods with respect to efficiency, and accuracy of the solution.
- share some ideas as to what methods are suitable for different situations.

CONTENTS
Solution of linear systems of equations using direct and iterative methods. Norms of vectors and matrices. Stability and conditioning. Sparse matrices. Solution of linear least squares problems. Singular value decomposition. Calculation of eigenvalues and vectors.

TEACHING
Lectures and voluntary comcputer laborations.

EXAMINATION
Written examination and mandatory assignments.
