TIMEPERIOD: Quarter III LANGUAGE:English/Swedish EXAMINER Kalevi Hyyppä Univ lekt PREREQUISITES SMD026 Programming or SMD034 Imperative Programming, SME034 Circuit Theory or SME055 Basic Electronics and Measurements, SMR017 Automatic Control. COURSE AIM To give the student an introduction into the field of mechatronics. The journal IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics has given the following defintion of mechatronics: "The synergetic integration of mechanical engineering with electronic and intelligent com- puter control in the design and manufacturing of industrial products and processes" CONTENTS Transistors. (10%) Optical sensors. (10%) Electrical motors. (10%) Microcontrollers. (10%) Mobile robot project. (60%) TEACHING Some of the course theory is treated during lectures. A few compulsory laborations will be given in the beginng of the course. In the preparations for the laborations the student will be trained in using the simulation program PSpice. Most of the course time is devoted to the mobile robot project. The project is planned and undertaken completely by the students. Parts of the robot are completed at the start of the course. The project goal will vary from year to year. EXAMINATION Grading System: Failed, passed. The class writes a report on the robot project. COURSE GRADE SCALE: ITEMS/CREDITS | |
