PREREQUISITES
General eligibility for admission.

COURSE AIM
To give an introduction in working methods and planning methods together with the different goals and values that are parts of the traffic planning process.
The course will also give fundamental knowledge about road and street design based on traffic conditions and transport needs.
In a design assignment that deals with public transport, the student uses the methods and measures needed to reduce the conflicts that arise partly inside the traffic system and partly between the traffic system and its environment.


CONTENTS
Organization and work methods: Organization, conditions and form of collaboration for national and local traffic planning. Physical and economical road planning. Legislation. Planning methods. TRÅD -92.
Geometrical design: Geometrical design of roads. Practice in using ARGUS. Design assignments.
Computer aid in traffic planning: EVA. VIPS.
Design assignment: To study an existing/future traffic system in an area to form the basis of a suggestion of measures and design.


TEACHING
The instruction consists of lectures and design assignments together with laboratory work. Handing in design assignments and participation in laboratory work is compulsory.

EXAMINATION
To pass the course, the student has to pass a written test and to pass oral and written accounting of project work.

Recommended required knowledge: SBT010 Traffic and Town Planning with "Ecological" Considerations.
