COURSE AIM
The course will give the student a broad background in the fields of ore and mineral deposits - their genesis, occurrence, exploration and exploitation.

CONTENTS
Ore genesis and plate tectonics. Ore genesis in the sedimentary, metamorphic and
magmatic environments. Formation and na-ture of hydrothermal solutions.
Ore types and textures. Paragenetic associations. Wall rock alteration.
Industrial minerals
Global ore resources The global distri-bution of important ore types and other im-portant mineral resources, production and consumption patterns.
Exploration strategy. Economic aspects and risks. Choice of areas and methods
Sampling. Diamond drilling and other types of drilling. Trenching. Logging and assaying
Mining laws.
Mining geology and underground exploration.
Ore reserve estimation and grade control.


TEACHING
Lectures and practicals. Underground mapping and project work.

EXAMINATION
Project work and written examination at the end of the course.
