TIMEPERIOD: Quarter III LANGUAGE:English/Swedish EXAMINER Lennart Widenfalk Bitr prof PREREQUISITES SBL001 (or equivalent), Basic geology COURSE AIM The course will provide the basic tools for structural analysis of rocks and regions. CONTENTS Platetectonics: Diverging plateboundaries and ocean floor spreading. Plate boundaries at fracture zones. Converging plate boundaries and collision zones. The distribution of the continents and their movements. Structural analysis: Descriptive geometric analysis inkluding mapping and stereographic projection. Stress and Strain. Kinematiic och dynamic analysis. Primary structures: Primary sedimentary and volcanic structures used for structural analysis Secondary structures: Normal and reversed faults, thrusts and nappes, Strike-slip faults. Stress distribution at faults. Folding, lineation and schistosity. Fractures and joints. TEACHING Tutorial including practicals. EXAMINATION Project work and written examination at the end of the course. COURSE GRADE SCALE: U, 3, 4, 5 ITEMS/CREDITS | |
