COURSE AIM
The aim of the course is to provide both knowledge about mechanical and biological waste treatment processes as well as tools to critically assess and develop such processes.

CONTENTS
The course gives a survey of unit operations used in mechanical and biological waste treatment. By means of realistic problems, the processes are discussed with regard to the waste properties, usable microorganisms and construction and design of treatment facilities. The advantages and limitations of the mechanical and biological treatment processes are worked out with respect to quality requirements applied to the treatment products.

TEACHING
Teaching consists of lectures, laboratory training, exercises and a study visit.

EXAMINATION
Written exam with grades notes.
Compulsory laboratory training, study visit and exercises.
