PREREQUISITES
Basic knowledge of manufacturing engineering.

COURSE AIM
The aim of the course is to provide a basic knowledge of integrated systems and techniques used in design and manufacturing industry. The course can be tailored for students with different backgrounds and interests via the project component of the course.

CONTENTS
Computers and computer systems in industry, networks, CAD, data transfer standards (IGES, STEP, etc.), CAM, electronic trade, development of CIM strategy, future trends...

Course Structure
Lectures 40%
Individual project 60%

TEACHING
The course consists of a number of formal lectures along with group discussion of articles and other material relevant to the course. An individual project (of the students choice and by agreement) and self study is also expected.

EXAMINATION
Written examination (50%) and a written report of the individual project (50%).
