COURSE AIM
The aim of the course is to provide basic understanding of the mathematical treatment of nonlinear material properties in solid mechanics and an overview of numerical methods of solution used with the finite element method.

CONTENTS
The general theory of plasticity is dealt with mainly. Also various type of elastic and viscoelastic materials are treated. Main parts are:
Theory of elasticiity. Hypoelastic materials, thermoelastic materials, linear and non-linear material properties, isotropy and anisotropy.
Viscoelastic materials. Maxwell`s and Kelvin`s materials models.
Yield criteria and collapse criteria. Stress space and yield surface. v. Mises yield criterion.
Drucker-Prager`s criterion.
Plasticity. Hardening, evolution laws, plastic collapse.
Solution of equation systems. Iteration processes. Boundary conditions.

The course provides understanding and insight into various general solution methods of nonlinear equation systems which are generally applicable in moden engineering analysis.

TEACHING
The theoretical part is dealt in the lectures and application examles and a compulsory case study in the exercises.
