PREREQUISITES
Applicants must have completed the courses KSP046 and PÄP044.

COURSE AIM
The aims of the course are that students:
- acquire knowledge of the nature, culture, social conditions and historical and religious distinctive character of their local environment
- develop ability to recognize the dimension of time in the development of the local community, and to reflect on their own identity
- develop ability to revise their own attitudes concerning ethics and other questions of vital importance
- develop ability to use the local community and environment as a teaching resource
- develop ability to plan and work out an inventory of towns and villages that can be used for studies of the local environment
- develop ability to use mathematics as a tool in everyday life

ITEM 1. Social science
Basic knowledge of maps, their construction and fields of application
Geography of names
Weather, climate and seasons
The earth and the earth's surface, natural processes and effects on the earth's surface
Basic industry - agriculture and forestry
The growth of modern Sweden
The democratic basis of values
Social conditions in the home district
Local and regional government
Local and regional public economy
Trade-union matters
The local community as part of the history of the Barents' region and the Nordic states
Unique religious and profane culture-historical places in the region
Original population and state formation
The emergence and development of Christianity and its influence on the Age of Enlightenment, pietism and the so called secularization
Religious life in the local community, its roots and growth and the significance of religion to the individual and to society
Churches and religious currents in modern society
ITEM 2. Mathematics
Theory of numbers, geometry, algebra and problem-solving
Mathematical didactics for primary school

TEACHING
Lectures, lessons, seminars, study visits, excursions.
Group-work and activating, problem-based and interdisciplinary work procedures
will be important aspects of the teaching. Students will plan, carry out and present an inventory of towns and villages.

EXAMINATION
Written and oral examination, individually and in group.
COURSE GRADE SCALE: Fail, Pass.
