PREREQUISITES
General entrance requirements and course admission requirements for teacher training.

COURSE AIM
The aims of the course are that students:
- gain awareness of their responsibility for, and their ability to influence, people´s self-esteem,
learning and development
- acquire knowledge of pupils in need of special support
- gain familiarity with the basics of the acquisition of reading and writing skills
- gain insight into ethical issues connected to the teaching role
- learn how to carry out educational development work, and develop an ability to apply theories
on learning and didactics to teaching in an independent and concrete way
- gain familiarity with the subject matter and the curriculums of the subject field, awareness of
essential didactic issues, and knowledge of different means of assuring the quality of the
teaching

CONTENTS
Special education and remedial teaching methods.
Bullying and conflict-resolution.
The basics of the acquisition of reading and writing skills.
Reading and writing disability.
Psychosocial work enwironment.
Essential didactic approaches.
Tests, grading and evaluation of pupils´achievements.
Pupils and teachers in democratic co-operation.

TEACHING
Theoretical studies and practical training will be integrated. The teaching practice gives eight academic credits and will be carried out in the 4th-9th- form of comprehensive school. The teaching will take the form of lectures, lessons and seminars. The practical aspects of the degree project will be completed during the work placement period.

EXAMINATION
The scientific background to the degree project will be evaluated.
