PREREQUISITES
General entrance requirements and course admission requirements for recreation instructor training orientated towards adolescents and their leisure time.

COURSE AIM
The aims of the course are that students:
- gain experience and knowledge of different youth activities, and an understanding of their historical, ideological and cultural background
- gain insight into the requirements that are attached to the role of a recreation instructor
- are encouraged to develop mentally and emotionally as leaders and individuals
- develop awareness and understanding of their own attitudes and behaviour, as well as of their qualities and possibilities
- acquire knowledge of the individual, of groups and of group processes as regards different sets of values, cooperation and handling of conflicts
- develop ability to use their knowledge, insights and skills in their professional role, in work with individuals and groups in different work situations

CONTENTS
Child and adolescent development, with a focus on adolescents aged between12 and 20.
Social, cultural, linguistic and economic differences in society
Connections between children's and adolescent's home background and their development
The process of socialization and theories of socialization
Societal consequences of computerization
Youth cultures
Equality and equal opportunity
To work as a recreation instructor with adolescents and their leisure
Ethics and moral issues
Project work


TEACHING
The teaching will consist of lectures, lessons and seminars. Students are to carry out a group project that has to do with children's and adolescent's social environment. One day in the beginning of the course will be devoted to ethics and moral issues. Work on practical placement (4 credits) in different fields of activities among youths will be an integral part of the course.

EXAMINATION
Written and oral examination, individually and in group.
COURSE GRADE SCALE: Fail, Pass.
