TIMEPERIOD: LANGUAGE:Swedish EXAMINER Robert Lundqvist Univ adj PREREQUISITES Mathematics, basic course COURSE AIM At the end of the course the student should be able ¥ to demonstrate that she or he has acquired statistical thinking; ¥ to demonstrate understanding for variation and for the importance of taking variation into consideration when doing statistical reasoning; ¥ to apply the different elements of a statistical survey; ¥ to apply some statistical methods for collecting and analysing data; ¥ to use statistical software when analysing data; ¥ to search in the national and international official production of statistics; ¥ to present, both orally and in writing, statistical results and analyses. CONTENTS The course deals with the design of sample surveys and questionnaires, as well as exploring and summarizing data (including EDA). Basic concepts in probability and statistics like the concept of random variables, measures of location and dispersion, distributions, confidence intervals, and hypothesis testing are dealt with.
