EXAMINER
P Börjesson Prof

PREREQUISITES
SMS021 Signals and Systems II, SMS015 Digital Transmission.

COURSE AIM
The student extends his/her knowledge and understanding about some basic detection and estimation methods, characteristic for the areas of application where the signal processing engineer works, including the area of modern digital communication systems.

CONTENTS
In this course, basic results of detection and estimation theory are treated. The following subjects are considered: Deterministic and stochastic system parameters, sufficient statistics, Bayes detection, maximum likelihood (ML) estimation, maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimation, minimum mean- squared error (MMSE) estimation, spectral estimation (parametric and non-parametric). All methods are illustrated with examples and applications, e.g. digital communication systems.

TEACHING
Lectures and exercise sessions.

EXAMINATION
Written exam with differentiated grades.
