PREREQUISITES

COURSE AIM
The aim of this course is to provide students with a good knowledge about, and a good understanding of the models, theories and applications of mathematical communication theory.

CONTENTS
Information theory will be treated in its general form, but with a certain emphasis on the analysis of communication systems. Both source coding and channel coding are addressed, as well as the combination of the two. The part on information theory include basic definitions, theorems, lemma and methods, such as Shannon entropy, source/channel coding theorems and source coding algorithms. The part on channel coding include traditional forward error correction methods, such as block coding, convolutional coding and trellis coding.
