PREREQUISITES


COURSE AIM
To give the student basic knowledge about optoelectronic components and about methodes for fiber optical communication.

CONTENTS
Radiometry and photometry (8 %). Solid state physics (12 %). Optical sources and transmitters (18 %). Optical detectors and receivers (12 %). Fiber optical waveguides (18 %). Fiber cables and connectors (4 %). Communication systems (12 %). Fiber optical sensors (12 %). Future trends (4 %).

TEACHING
Some of the course theory is explained during lectures. Problems are given as homework for the students. Solutiones to the problems are given during lectures. Two compulsory lessons deal with connectors for fiber cables and the design of a simple fiberoptical link.

EXAMINATION
Written test with differentiated grades.
