COURSE AIM
To give insights into the fundamental phenomena of importance for energy conversion and formation of pollutants in internal combustion engines and to give knowledge about methods and data used for thermal and fluid dynamic design in applications for spark ignition and compression ignition engines.
CONTENTS
Design and operational parameters, thermochemistry, properties of the working medium, ideal engine processes, gas exchange processes, spark ignition engines, compression ignition engines, polltant formation and control, engine heat transfer, theoretical modelling, operating characteristics.
TEACHING
Reading course with 10 seminars for discussion of solutions to homework problems. The relevant chapter of the book shall be read before each seminar. Four guest lectures.
EXAMINATION
Written test with differentiated grades. Correction according to alternative A in "Rules for examination"
