COURSE AIM
To give insights into the fundamental theory of reactor physics, radiation protection, reactor kinetics and thermohydraulics, to give knowledge about methods and data used for design of reactor cores for water cooled nuclear reactors and to give understanding of the safety problems associated with use of nuclear energy.

CONTENTS
Nuclear reactions, reactor physics, reactor kinetics, cooling of the reactor core, design principles for light water cooled nuclear reactors, design of fuel elements, the nuclear fuel cycle, reactor safety, nuclear waste management.

TEACHING
Reading course with 10 seminars for discussion of solutions to homework problems. The relevant chapter of the book shall be read before each seminar. Four guest lectures.

EXAMINATION
Written test with differentiated grades. Correction according to alternative A in "Rules for examination".
