PREREQUISITES


COURSE AIM
The fundamentals of physics and analytical methods for solid and fluid mechanics are introduced. The student is trained in solving problems of practical relevance.

CONTENTS
General Part (30%) Vector and Tensor Algebra. Analysis of Stress; Mohr's Circles. Kinematics; Deformation, Material Derivative. Conservation Laws. Constitutive Relationships. Fluid Mechanics (35%) Euler's Equation. Potential Flow. Aerodynamic Theory. Compressible flow. Navier-Stokes' Equations. Solid Mechanics (35%) Navier's Equations. Bending and Torsion. Elastic Stress Waves.

TEACHING
Seminars, lectures and training classes are given. On each part home tasks is provided. Students preparing these tasks adequately are given a bonus for examination.
