COURSE AIM
The purpose of the course is to develop an understanding of fluid mechanical phenomena on the basis of a differential equation formulation of the equations of motion.

CONTENTS
Description of the flow field (30%): The continuum model, Euler and Lagrange coordinates, particle path, streakline, streamline, stream function, circulation, vorticity, potential; laws for mass, momentum and energy, conditions for various approximations. Inviscid flow (35%): Potential flow, elementary solutions to Laplace's equation, Kelvins theorem, lift theory. Viscous flow (35%): Exact solutions of Navier-Stokes equations, boundary layers, stability and turbulence transition, turbulent flow.

Class-room teaching.

EXAMINATION
Written exam in two parts; homework assignments with credit points.
