PREREQUISITES
COURSE AIM
The course gives basic knowledge in modern physics with emphasis on the concepts of matter, energy and radiation, and on the physics of the 20th century. The focus is on modern physics of importance for technological research and development, e.g. advanced measuring techniques with the help of physical principles.
CONTENTS
The course gives basic engineering knowledge in nuclear physics, atomic physics, quantum mechanics, X-ray technology, crystal structures, electron theories of solid materials, thermal properties of rigid bodies and temperature radiation. It also provides a necessary basis for more advanced courses within these areas.
TEACHING
The course includes classroom lectures and laborative exercises. The lectures contain overviews of theoretical moments, practical demonstrations and problem solution. The laborative moments are performed in groups of 3-4 students and a written report must be submitted by each group.
EXAMINATION
A written examination concludes the course. It tests the student's understanding of modern physics and ability to solve problems.
