COURSE AIM
The aim of the course is to provide a firm foundation for using German practically in speech and writing and some knowledge within such fields as; German literature, German culture and German social conditions. The course consists of grammar, the history of the language, literature and cultural studies.

CONTENTS
Module 1. German grammar, 1.5 credits. Module 2. Written proficiency, 3 credits. Module 3. Oral proficiency, 1.5 credits. Module 4. German literature and the history of literature, 3 credits. Module 5. Conversation and cultural studies, 3 credits. Module 6. The development of the German language, 3 credits

TEACHING


EXAMINATION
Module 1. Written test (1.5 credits) Module 2. The national translation test from and into German (3 credits), Module 3. Regular and active participation in class is required (1.5 credits) and oral presentations will be assessed in the conversation and literature course (1.5 credits). Module 4. Continuous assessment of participation in the literary seminars (1.5 credits) a shorter, written literary essay related to the course (1.5 credits). This should comprise 5-10 pages. Module 5. Active participation, oral and written reports about a suitable theme from the course (3 credits). Note: Modules that do not end with a written test are normally compulsory. All tests will be graded as above. To receive Pass with Distinction for the course the students are required to have Pass with Distinction for at least 10.5 credits. Students who do not pass the ordinary tests will have the opportunity to take a resit. The students that pass the tests can not resit them to obtain higher grades.
