PREREQUISITES
English A, 30 credits and English B, 30 credits. However, students may begin the course if they have passed at least 24 credits on the B course.

COURSE AIM
The aim of the course is to give advanced knowledge of linguistics and the history of literature, broader knowledge in a special field and to improve general skills in spoken and written English. Moreover, the student is to be given practice in producing academic reports by producing an original piece of work in one of the fields of research for the subject.

CONTENTS
Module 1. Language proficiency (3 credits). Module 2. Advanced course in linguistics (6 credits). Module 3. Advanced course in English and American literature (6 credits). Module 4. Special project (15 credits).

TEACHING


EXAMINATION
Module 1. Written translation test (1.5 credits). Assessment of oral proficiency (1.5 credits). Module 2. Written test or (if the number of students allow) oral presentations in the history of language (3 credits).Written test in English linguistics (3 credits). Module 3. Continuous assessment and a final oral examination (4 credits). Module 4. An individual essay, that will be defended in good English at a seminar (15 credits). Note: Attendance is compulsory in the modules that do not end with a written test. Students who do not pass the tests will have the opportunity to take a resit. All tests will be graded as above. To receive Pass with Distinction for the course the students are required to have Pass with Distinction for at least 15 credits.
