PREREQUISITES
General eligibility with at least grade 3 from a 3 year upper secondary school course programme.

COURSE AIM
The aim of the course is to provide the students with basic skills when using English in speech and writing as well as to provide knowledge of grammar, British and American cultural studies and 20th century literature.

CONTENTS
Note: Modules that do not end with a written test are normally compulsory. Module 1. Oral proficiency (1.5 credits). Module 2. British and American cultural studies (3 credits). Module 3. Grammar and vocabulary studies (4.5 credits). Module 4. Written proficiency (3 credits). Module 5. Literary studies (3 credits).

TEACHING


EXAMINATION
Module 1. The students will be graded on pronunciation and on oral fluency (1.5 credits). Module 2. Written and /or oral test (3 credits). Module 3. Written test in English grammar and vocabulary (4.5 credits). Module 4. Continuous assessment of essay writing and creative writing (1.5 credits). Written translation test (1.5 credits). Module 5. At the beginning of the course students and teacher will agree on the form of the examination. Students who do not pass the ordinary tests will have the opportunity to take a resit. All modules will be graded as above. To receive Pass for the course, Pass is required for all modules of the course.
