COURSE AIM
The objective of the course is to give the students knowledge about industrial chemical processes and their use in modern process industry. Another objective is to provide basic knowledge about environmental science and to aquaint the students with techniques for pollution control.
CONTENTS
Introduction, Chemical industry, Heterogeneous catalysis, Surface chemistry and surfactants, Oxidizing agents and sodium hydroxide, Synthesis gas, Ammonia and inorganic acids, Refining industry, Pulp- and paper industry, Polymer technology.
Current environmental status, Basic environmental science, Environmental protection-environmental law, Clean technology, Life cycle assessment, Techniques for pollution control.
TEACHING
The course is presented in the form of lectures and a major project assignment. Educational visits at local process industries are planned.
EXAMINATION
Approved laboratory reports and approved written edamination with the grades G or VG. The project assignment is reported in the form of a written report and an oral presentation of the results.
