PREREQUISITES


COURSE AIM
The aim of the course is to present the basic physical laws governing fluid mechanics and an orientation on pumps and fans. Lectures: 14 hours. Laboratory: 16 hours.

CONTENTS
Basic equations (14%): Continuity. Bernoullis equation, Toricellis theorem. Flow of fluids in pipes and channels (30%): Theoretical and real volumetric flow, non-stationary flow. Pressure drop calculations (28%): Flow with losses due to friction, resistance to flow, laminar and turbulent flow, economic aspects with regard to energy losses in pipes. Pumps (14%): Pressure and fluid head, affinity laws, series and parallel coupling of pumps, pump curves, flow control by constriction. Fans (14%): General description, term normal cubic meter, power requirements.

TEACHING
The course is presented in the form of lectures, tutorials and laboratory assignments. The tutorials and the laboratory assignments are compulsory.

EXAMINATION
Approved laboratory assignments, tutorials and an approved written examination with differentiated grades. Evaluation of the written examination is performed according to Alternative A as described in "Regler för tentamen".
