COURSE AIM
Item 1. Inorganic chemistry The course should give the students a fundamental knowledge of coordination chemistry, inorganic reaction teory and descriptive chemistry. The laboratory exercises covers inorganic reaction theory and qualitative inorganic analysis. Item 2. Physical chemistry After completion of the item, the student shall be able to: - Understand and apply the thermodynamic laws - Use chemical and electrochemical potentials practically - Differentiate between the termodynamics in ideal and real systems - Analytically discuss the kinetiks of chemical reactions - Interpret basic surface and colloid concepts - Understand the influence of the factors that determines the stability of colloids

CONTENTS
Item 1. Inorganic chemistry Descriptive inorganic chemistry with reference to the periodic table The solid state Coordination chemistry Ligand field theory Inorganic reaction theory Item 2. Physical chemistry Functions of state. The thermodynamic laws. Partial molar quantities. Chemical and electrochemical potential. Activity. Kinetics of chemical reactions, including reaction order and mechanisms. The temperature dependence of the kinetics. Basic concepts as katalysis, activation energy and activated complexes. Colloid states, the interfaces gas-liquid-solid, colloidal stability. Emulsions and foam. Rheology.

TEACHING
The instruction consists of projects, lessons and compulsory laboratory classes. Specific assignments that will be performed in teams are also included.

EXAMINATION
Graded written examinations and passed laboratory reports.
