PREREQUISITES
Basic course in General Chemistry, KMK013 or a corresponding course.

COURSE AIM
To achieve a good knowledge of important inorganic reactions in general, including Corrosion of inorganic materials. Acquire an understanding of complexation, solubility and precipitation reactions in qualitative inorganic chemistry. Furthermore, to be able to analytically describe the kinetics of chemical reactions.

CONTENTS
Atomic ions and oxidation numbers. Coordination and hydratization. Graphic presentation of solubility and complex formation. Separation of cat- and anions. Extensive laborations in qualitative inorganic chemistry. The main types of corrosion reactions and their mechanisms. Strategies to prevent or reduce corrosion. Kinetics of chemical reactions, including reaction order and mechanisms. The temperature dependence of the kinetics. Basic concepts as katalysis, activation energy and activated complexes.

TEACHING
The instruction consists of lectures, lessons and compulsatory laboratory classes. Specific assignments that will be performed in teams are also included.

EXAMINATION
A written examination which is graded, passed laboratory reports. Approved laborations and a written exam with differentiated grades.
