COURSE AIM
The aim of the course is to give the student
á deeper knowledge of strengths and weaknesses of information technology
á understanding of the use of IT in a multimodal perspective
á knowledge of different approaches in software development
á knowledge of software construction
CONTENTS
The course builds on IT I which introduces the student to basic concepts of information technology and puts it in its context. IT II focuses on the technology itself and the emphasis is on methodology for conceptualisation and construction of IT-artefacts. The multimodal perspective contributes to deeper understanding of IT-use, design and construction and of IT-research and development. More specifically
á multimodal theory applied to the development and use of IT-artefacts
á methodologies for development of IT-artefacts
á design and constructions of database systems, expert systems and multimedia systems
TEACHING
The course will comprise lectures, demonstrations, tutorials and laboratory sessions. The demonstrations will be designed to illustrate the lecture materials and present a range of different information technologies in a visual, interactive way throughout the series. Students will have opportunity to experience these at first hand and reflect upon their experience. They will also be required to plan and undertake a piece of work in the laboratory which they will be required to present.
EXAMINATION
Laboratory work, tutorial paper, presentation, participation and final examination.
Grades awarded: Fail, Pass and Pass with Distinction.
