PREREQUISITES
Students have to have taken course A in psychology, 20 points (30 credits). Students from outside the Nordic countries have to possess qualifications in Swedish as a foreign language equivalent to Swedish course IV (syllabus approved by the National Swedish Board of Universities and Colleges) or the introductory course for foreign students, 20 points (30 credits).

COURSE AIM
The aim of the course is to provide knowledge of the human being as a biological, cognitive, social and emotional being. The course shall also give deeper knowledge of scientific methods, especially experimental methodology.

CONTENTS
The course consists of the following four parts: Part 1. Technical Psychology (5p) Psychological aspects of the interaction between human beings and the technical systems handled during work and everyday life. Special emphasis will be on cognitive functions such as attention, mental models and decision-making. Models for examination of usability of information systems. Part 2. Work psychology. (5p) Cognitive, social, and motivational aspects of human beings at work with special emphasis on effects of organisational and technological change. Theories about stress and mental health. Laboratory work with training in work psychology methodology. Part 3. Clinical Psychology. (5p) Psychopathology. Personality theory. Neuropsychology in research and applications. Part 4. Development psychology. (5p) Theories about the individualÕs social, cognitive, emotional and biological development. Methodology for observation of behaviour.

TEACHING
Teaching will be in the form of lectures, seminars, and laboratory work. Taking part in laboratory work and seminars is mandatory. The course is mainly based on the skill acquisition where the students, under supervision, use their theoretical and methodological knowledge to plan investigations, collect information, process data and report results.

EXAMINATION
The examination will be in the form of individually written examinations after each part. Oral and written presentation of laboratory work and performed studies.
