COURSE AIM
The aim of the course is to give basic knowledge in building technology, including building physics, applied on building elements (walls, roofs etc.) in commercial and industrial buildings using the current building code.

CONTENTS
Building technology in a historical perspective: (5%) Functional requirements for buildings: (50%). Heat and moisture transport, acoustics and sound insulation, fire protection, springness of floor joists, building codes. Light-weight construction technology: (10%) Building elements: (15%) Roof and wall structures for commercial and industrial buildings, masonry structures. Industrial buildings: (20%). Drawing basics, project work. Project work Design the cladding units of a building. Students work in groups of two. The work includes construction and design in the ultimate limit and serviceability stage of the roof system and facade, determination of the necessary heat insulation and a drawing with details.

TEACHING
Teaching will take the form of lectures, project work and seminars. Students present solutions to the project work at seminars. The seminars are compulsory.

EXAMINATION
Course grades: 3, 4, 5. A written exam is given. To pass examination students must have an approved project work and give active participation in the seminars.
