PREREQUISITES
Basic courses in Rock Mechanics

COURSE AIM
The course will give the student enhanced knowledge in rock mechanics focusing on planning, design and monitoring of underground structures in rock for civil engineering and mining applications. In particular emphasis is put on the understanding of the interaction between natural and artificial support members and how natural support members such as pillars and walls are designed.

CONTENTS
- Basic rock mechanics (rep) - Numerical methods in rock mechanics analysis - Roofs - Walls - Pillars - Floor - Fill - Project task

TEACHING
Teaching is conducted in the form of lectures, training in class, home tasks, and one large project task. Real problems are considered, discussed and analyzed. A great part of the training is based on the use of computers. The participation in the project task and the submission of the home tasks are compulsory.

EXAMINATION
Written examinition with grades marks. Completed and approved project and home work tasks.
