PREREQUISITES
ABB007 Calculus, partial differential equations. Basic knowledge of strength of materials and structural mechanics, displacement method and energy principles.

COURSE AIM
To give students basic knowledge of governing differential equations for plates and shells, and solution strategies for such problems.

CONTENTS
Derivation of differential equations. Solution of plates with Airy's stress-funtion in cartesian and polar coordinates. Serial solution of Kirchhoff's equation for deflection and buckling of rectangular and circular plates. Assignments.

TEACHING
The teaching consists of lectures, exercises and assignments. Assignments are compulsory.

EXAMINATION
Written examination at the end of the course. Assignments.
