PREREQUISITES
Eligibility for course admission to begin studies on child and youth programmes specializing in working as a pre-school teacher.

COURSE AIM
The students should have theoretical and practical knowledge about language learning.
They should have knowledge about methods, that will stimulate pre-school children when they start to learn English.
Based on established level of language skills improve students' language structures, vocabulary and English for teaching purposes.
Developing students' communicative competence.

CONTENTS
- what the research says about language learning
- formation of concepts and language learning in pre-school - goals, means and methods.
- communicative competence.
- the English speaking heritage, inter-cultural understanding and social studies.
-knowledge of songs, games and other means, that provide skills to stimulate pre-school children when starting to learn English.
- the contents, methods and ways of working when teaching English in
primary and secondary schools.
- language stimulation for pupils with another native language.

TEACHING
The course includes lectures and general meetings with discussions about the course contents, combined with practical illustrative teaching examples and exercises. Seminars and group discussions around the course literature and assignments will be implemented.
A native teacher should also be involved in teaching the course.

EXAMINATION
The students will be graded on individual assignment reports and group work. The course requires an active participation in lectures and group discussions.
COURSE GRADE SCALE: Fail, Pass
