TIMEPERIOD: Q3 LANGUAGE:Swedish EXAMINER PREREQUISITES Applicants must have completed the courses KSP046 and PÄP044. COURSE AIM The aims of the course are that students: - gain insight into the geographical environment and man's forming of society - acquire knowledge of the growth of the Western cultural heritage - humanism and Jewish-Christian traditions - and relate it to other existing cultures and patterns of life - acquire knowledge of the dimension of time and the historical heritage - acquire knowledge of Christian tradition as it appears in symbols and in the church festivals of the ecclesiastical year - develop ability to independently interpret and understand the content and meaning of the most frequently used Bible passages - develop a relationship to literary classics and their themes, such as questions of responsibility, ethics, and man's social and existential state - develop understanding of the significance of the cultural heritage and language to the individual's feeling of participation in a community of culture, and to his/her richness of perspectives, power of insight and identity - acquire comprehensive knowledge of the development of the Swedish language in the course of time - acquire comprehensive knowledge of our neighboring languages CONTENTS ITEM 1. Social science Population, settlement Town and country planning From Jerusalem and Athens to Auschwitz and Hiroshima The Janus face of the Western cultural heritage The other, non-Western cultures Cultural hegemonies The Christian cultural heritage as a basis of values - notion of faith communicated through the Bible (OT-NT) Interpretation of texts focused on existential understanding of yesterday and today Illumination of how the interaction between society and Christianity has effected and effects the ideas of Christianity Computer-based learning programs that support investigating work procedures Computers and learning II Application of scientific methodology ITEM 2. Swedish Myths and older texts Literary classics in Swedish literature Linguistic change illuminated by texts from different ages Linguistic change in 20th century Swedish The linguistic situation in the Scandinavian countries Reading of Danish and Norwegian texts A choice of books for children, juveniles and adults ITEM 3. Work on practical placement TEACHING Lectures, lessons, seminars, study visits, excursions. Group-work and activating, problem-based and interdisciplinary work procedures will be important aspects of the teaching. EXAMINATION Written and oral examination, individually and in group.
