COURSE AIM
Leisure science as an interdisciplinary discipline has the task of systematically describing, explaining and providing understanding of leisure as a complex phenomenon from the perspectives of behavioural and social science, nature and the liberal arts. The course is focused on the field of business economy and leisure.

Leisure science A1 treats the relationship between man and leisure and society and leisure. The aims of the course are that the students acquire elementary knowledge of the development and significance of leisure from these perspectives.


CONTENTS
Module 1: Man and leisure, 5 credits
- leisure science as discipline, education, field of work and research
- the concept of leisure - free time yesterday, today and tomorrow
- people's need of leisure for their well-being and health - psychological perspectives
- different groups' needs of recreation activities
- sociological perspectives - gender, ethnicity, social background, age and demographic aspects - the process of socialization
- field studies in the leisure sector

Module 2: Society and leisure, 5 credits
the ideology and policy of leisure
political goals and means for recreation activities
public, political and administrative organizations, their tasks, authority and problems, leisure in social planning
civil and public law
leisure as a regional development factor, leisure and commercialisation
the development, organization and function of the popular movements
field studies in the leisure sector


TEACHING
The teaching will consist of lectures, lessons, group discussions, excursions, field studies, study visits and literature seminars. A week of field studies in the leisure sector is included in both course modules.


EXAMINATION
Evaluation of performance of course assignments carried out in the form of reflecting reports and written and oral examination individually and in groups. Field reports will also be evaluated.
