PREREQUISITES
Applicants must have completed the courses KSP046, PÄP044 and KSP056.

COURSE AIM
The aims of the course are to give the students increased insight into and communicative ability in the field of art education, and ability to use art as an educational tool in all schoolwork.
The students are to acquire elementary knowledge of
- pictorial communication at an individual level and in society
- production of pictures with different material and techniques
- the role of the picture in different contexts and cultures
- the picture as bearer of meaning, ideas and content beyond the object
- art and cultural history
- children's visual art

The students will be required to work on and develop
- their own attitudes and values concerning visual art and pictorial communication
- own pictures for teaching in other education fields

The students will be required to apply
- their knowledge of art education at school, pre-school and day-centres for school-
age children
- art education in schoolwork as a whole

CONTENTS
Broadening and deepening in fields of work of earlier courses: additional possibilities of expression with form, colour, tint and line. Art picture. Art as cultural language and world language. Children's pictures. Student's own pictures for teaching. Pictures as teaching aid. Handwriting. Exhibitions.

TEACHING
Concrete, practical-laboratory work procedures, individually and in groups. Projects, seminars, study visits and field studies. Lectures by guest speakers currently in the forefront.

EXAMINATION
Presentation of practical-laboratory work. Self-instructed assignments, course assignments and required reading.
COURSE GRADE SCALE: Fail, Pass.
