PREREQUISITES
IES 327 or equal courses.

COURSE AIM
- To obtain profounder knowledge of the political and economic development of Europe, especially that of European Union
- To investigate and exhibit a political or economic European problem in order to expose the future of Europe


CONTENTS
Course 1
Alternative 1
Some EU-policies: agricultural and environmental policies, regional and structural policies, the social dimension, etc
Democracy on a EU level
The mission of Sweden in Europe to-day and to-morrow
The EU and the rest of the world

Alternative 2
Analysis of the theoretical economic ground of political decisions in EU. The main point lies on theories of economic integration and single currency.
The economic development in Western Europe will be compared with the rest of the world and especially the states in Eastern Europe. The preparations for the EU enlargement will be analysed and the effects on the whole of Europe of prolonged integration will be discussed.

Course 2
Analysis of political and economic trends in Europe. The results will be introduced in some scenarios.
Profounder knowledges of a special subject will then be shown and written in one essay.


TEACHING
Teaching consists of lectures, seminars.

EXAMINATION
Grades are Fail, Pass, Pass with Honour

Part 1: Assignments and a written exam.
Part 2: Assignments and an essay. Presence at seminars is compulsory.
The grade Pass requires "Pass" on all parts of the course.
