General eligibility and mathematics from a three year high school education or equivalent.

COURSE AIM
The aim of the course is to provide basic knowledge about the functioning of the market regarding price formation and resource allocation. Furthermore, the course will enhance the ability to apply economic theory on current economic problems. The course will also give the ability to critically assess and analyze economic conditions and developments.

CONTENTS
Economic theory is introduced to give an understanding of the role of price formation and resource allocation in a market economy. The behavior of individual economic agents, such as households and enterprises, and its importance for goods market is analyzed. Price formation under different market systems is also studied. Price formation in the market is discussed also from a welfare point of view, and different problems with the functioning of markets are focused on.

Lectures and group work.

EXAMINATION
Examination is done through written tests. 6 credits.
