TIMEPERIOD: Quarter 4, 2001/02 LANGUAGE:English/Swedish EXAMINER James LeBlanc Univ lekt PREREQUISITES SMS012 Signals and Systems I, SMS013 Signals and Systems II, SMS015 Digital Transmission Systems. COURSE AIM To give the student basic knowledge about and understanding of modern systems for transmission of information. CONTENTS The course focuses on digital systems with possibilities for integration of a broad set of services, e.g. telecommunication, mobile and earthbound communication nets, data transmission via radio media and radio link. - Applications: Point to multipoint, Twisted pair, digital mobile communication, RDS, EPOS, digital audio broadcast and digital TV (HDTV). - Transmission/radio media: Wave propagation, antennas, noise, diversity systems, access technologies (TDMA, CDMA), multicarrier systems (OFDM), spreadspectrum systems, RAKE- receivers. - Coding in radio communications system: channel coding, source coding of speech and audio.
