PREREQUISITES
This course assumes a general knowledge of computer skills with familiarity of the Unix shell.

COURSE AIM
To give the student experience in managing modern computer systems. The course emphasizes Solaris. After the course the student should have confidence in his or her ability to solve problems and to perform common system management tasks.

An important subgoal in this course is to train the student to find, read and extract information from various technical sources.

CONTENTS
* Introduction
* The UNIX operating system overview
* Overview of system administration
* Day to day system administration tasks
* Tool to aid the system administrator (Perl, SED, AWK, Make etc...)
* Communication protocols (e-mail, DNS etc...)
* Interoperability
* Security

TEACHING
Teaching will consists of lectures, labs & seminars

Seminar 3.0 ECTS
Laboratory work 4.5 ECTS
