TIMEPERIOD: Quarter III LANGUAGE:Swedish EXAMINER A Sellgren Prof PREREQUISITES SBW011 or SBW012 COURSE AIM To give the foundations of open channel flow, dam safety, hydro power design and spreading of processes in recipients. CONTENTS Uniform and gradually varied flow: the Manning equation, hydraulic jump, sub- and supercritical flow, etc. Hydraulic structures: Sharp-crested weirs, Contracted weirs, Vee weirs, Control gates, Spillways. Surge waves: positive and negative waves, propagation speed. Sediment transportation: design of stable alluvial channels, bottom load, suspended load, bottom configuration, critical shear stress, etc. The function of different dams is reviewed including mine tailings dams. Guidelines for design. Risks and classification of consequences. The coupling between open channel flow and spreading processes in lakes and estuaries.
