TIMEPERIOD: Q IV LANGUAGE:Swedish EXAMINER Mats Lindberg Univ lekt PREREQUISITES Course in General Chemistry (A basic course in Organic Chemistry is recommended) COURSE AIM The course should give a fundamental knowledge of biochemical processes and the underlying principles that control these processes. CONTENTS Protein, structure and function. Carbohydrates, structure and function. Fats, lipids and biological membrans. Structures and functions. Transport mechanisms, of both materia and information, within and between cells. Models for enzymatic catalysis of reactions. Regulation of enzymatic activity. Organisation and expression of the genetic material. Main metabolic pathways: carbohydrate, fatty acid, and amino acid metabolism. Oxidative phosphorylation. Photosynthesis. TEACHING The course is presented in the form of lectures and laboratory exercises. The laboratory exercises are compulsory.
