KMA006 Preliminary Plant Design 6.0 ECTS credits | |
TIMEPERIOD: Q II LANGUAGE:Swedish EXAMINER Peter Sedin Lekt PREREQUISITES KMA002, KMT007, KMP010 or KMP020 COURSE AIM The course aims to give students the tools to design a process with a systematic approach and to introduce modern aids such as a flowsheeting program. The course sets the process in the centre and knowledge from previous chemical engineering courses is important for designing the process. A systematic design approach is stressed but also aspects of process control, optimisation, economics, safety and environmental analysis is included. CONTENTS The course consists of a lecture series and a project assignment. The topics of the lecture series include the analysis and synthesis of process alternatives, optimisation methods, energy considerations, selection of separation methods, estimation of physical/chemical data, reactor design, cost estimations of equipment, safety and environmental considerations, process control and influence of uncertain data on design. A considerable part of the course is the project assignment in which a preliminary design of a process from the chemical industry is carried out. The project also involves sizing and cost estimations of the individual process equipment. The course integrates concepts from all chemical engineering courses. TEACHING EXAMINATION Approved project assignment and oral examination.
