TIMEPERIOD: Q III LANGUAGE:Swedish EXAMINER Peter Sedin Lekt PREREQUISITES KMA001, KMA005 COURSE AIM The aim of the course is to give knowledge in design and function of important unit operations, especially unit operations where heat and mass transfer are of great importance. CONTENTS Multi component separation (25 %): Multi component distillation, shortcut and rigorous methods. Introduction to flow-sheeting. Cooling towers and scrubbers (25 %): wet-bulb temperature, Mollier diagram, calculations of the height of a tower, Mickley analysis, equipment. Drying (25 %): general aspects on drying, adiabatic dryers, equilibrium, drying rate, equipment. Leaching (25 %): general aspects on leaching, mass transport/reaction in the particles, calculation of the residence time, equipment. TEACHING The course is presented in form of lectures, tutorials and compulsory laboratory exercises.
