TIMEPERIOD: Q I LANGUAGE:Swedish EXAMINER Esa Vuorinen Univ adj PREREQUISITES Basics in chemistry or materialphysics. COURSE AIM The student will get - a survey over the theory of plastic deformation - knowledge about the relationship between microstructure and properties of engineering materials - knowledge about usage of some metallic and polymeric materials CONTENTS Theory of the mechanical properties. Metallic materials: Atomic structures, atomic arrangements, the mechanism of deformation, basic dislocation theory, diffusion, phase equilibrium, phase diagrams, thermal processing, creep, fabrication and corrosion. Polymers: Polymer structure, molecular weight, crystallinity, glass transition, viscoelasticity, rubber, yielding and deformation mechanisms.
