MTM070 Physical Optics 6.0 ECTS credits
TIMEPERIOD: Q III LANGUAGE:Swedish EXAMINER Lars Benckert Univ lekt PREREQUISITES MTF059 / 082 Optics or equivalent. COURSE AIM The course will give the student a thorough knowledge of the foundation of physical optics and applications of techniques based on optics in modern engineering. CONTENTS The course comprises two parts: The first deals with basic concepts like Interferance, Diffraction, Holography, Moir-technigues, Speckle methods and Photoelasticity. Demonstrations given are about Diffraction, Optical filtering,Schlieren,Shadowgraph,TV-holography, Shearography. Depending on the number of participants, laboratory and/or project work within the areas mentioned above is included. The second part is of a more fundamental nature and includes Fresnel-Kirchoffs theory for the propagation of scalar waves. This theory forms the basis for the treatment of Fresnel- and Fraunhofer diffraction, the propagation of laser beams, Fourier optics and coherence. Thin films are threated with matrix methods. Laboratory work on diffraction and Fourier optics is included. TEACHING Lectures, demonstrations, project work and laboratory work. EXAMINATION COURSE GRADE SCALE: U, 3, 4, 5 ITEMS/CREDITS
