MTM066 Wave Propagation in Structures 3.0 ECTS credits | |
TIMEPERIOD: Q IV LANGUAGE:Swedish EXAMINER Karl-Gustav Sundin Bitr prof PREREQUISITES Advanced course in Structural mechanics or Continuum mechanics. COURSE AIM Knowledge of wave propagation fenomena and ability to analyse mechanical waves in structures. CONTENTS Mathematical background (5%): Partial differential equations, Fourier methods, FFT, Transfer function Analysis of structures (70%): Structural elements such as rods, beams, plates are analysed regarding wave transmission properties. Concepts such as propagation, dispersion, phase velocity and group velocity are introduced. Reflection and transmission at boundaries are treated. Project (25%): One of the theoretically treated phenomena is studied experimentally. The work is planned and accomplished by the students (under supervision) with the aid of available experimental equipment. As an alternative, a deeper theoretical study of an area of interest can be performed. TEACHING EXAMINATION Written and oral presentation of assignments and project.
