COURSE AIM
The purpose of the course is to develop an understanding of fluid mechanical phenomena on basis of the differential equation formulation of the equations of motion.

CONTENTS
Cartesian tensors (10%)
Description of the flow field (30%): The continuum model, Euler and Lagrange coordinates, particle path, streakline, streamline, stream function, circulation, vorticity, potential; laws for mass, momentum and energy, conditions for various approximations.
Inviscid flow (30%): Potential flow, elementary solutions to Laplace's equation, Kelvin´s theorem, lift theory.
Viscous flow (30%): Exact solutions of Navier-Stokes equations, boundary layers, stability and transition to turbulence transition, turbulent flow.

TEACHING
Class-room teaching.

EXAMINATION
Written exam in two parts; homework assignments with credit points.
